Escape Fire Case Competition
This proposal is for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) to host a national case competition based on the main theme of the recent health delivery documentary Escape Fire: A Fight to Rescue American Healthcare. 15 to 20 inter-disciplinary teams would meet at USUHS to view the documentary and expert panel hosted by formal Army Surgeon General, Lieutenant General Retired, Dr. Eric Schoomaker. Teams would then be challenged with a prompt based on the message in the documentary. Teams would have around 48 hours to create 15 - 20 minute presentations. They would present their presentation to a panel of judges and winners would be awarded.

Definitely meets all the established criteria for judging, and will create more innovative ideas on its own!

This will provide for a more global discussion regarding the future direction of the MHS. The thoughts and ideas brought forth from the Escape Fire Case competition will allow for expansion of not just one thought or idea but several, allowing for a broader more comprehensive change process to take place with in the MHS.

This proposal sounds highly feasible and cost effective. Partnering with industry/academia will generate a lot of visibility and good ideas, promoting more research and solutions.

I agree - our system (like many others) has many perverse incentives and programs that downright contradict their founding goals by faulty programming and/or management. I am excited to see what this challenge brings about, and may the best program/recommendation win.

Think tanks are the path forward, and having so many great minds working towards the same end guarantees fruitful suggestions. Great idea -- I am going to spread this like wildfire.

Great idea. Would be nice to see results from Kaiser and one of MHS top performing MTFs or even a foreign organization.

Have you considered which schools should participate? Recommend folks from the top 11 MHA Programs...Go Bears!! This will be a great way to encourage academic rigor and induce collaboration between USUHS, Army Baylor Program in Healthcare Administration and the other outstanding civilian graduate programs.

A great idea worthy of my vote! Creativity is a great motivator because it makes people interested in what they are doing. It gives hope that there can be a worthwhile idea. Good luck!

I cannot wait to see the results! A great way to collect many innovative ideas on how to improve our Military and U.S. Health System.

Even though the 2013 MHS Conference has since been cancelled, the idea of an innovation competition is still a good one; perhaps, even more so, since the conference's cancellation leaves a sparse "idea terrain" this year.
