Archival and Web-based Visualization of Volumetric Scans and Clinical Data for TBI using the X3D International Standard

This is a proposal summary for the 2013 Military Health Innovation Challenge. Recent advances by the Web3D Consortium Medical Working Group have the potential to provide significant military health value. We will demonstrate that sharable annotated 3D medical records for TBI scans can be created using the Volume Visualization component of the Extensible 3D (X3D) Graphics International Standard. We will also demonstrate how X3D can be used as a presentation layer to integrate the disparate data sets used in the analysis of TBI to improve clinical situational awareness of this pathology. We suspect that many policy makers are not yet aware of the technical capabilities that are being made available by the open standards community, and hope that this work can provide a contribution.
